Hello Awesome Bakers!

Hospice Awareness Week is coming up in May which means lots of great events to help raise awareness of the amazing work the Hospices do.

Hello Bakers!!

The next round is coming up on Sunday 6 July and the theme is Winter Warmers!

So think of lovely warming winter baking recipes: winter produce, rich spices, hearty tucker to get the hospices through the next chilly months!

The drop off timetables are below (note the slight change to the Albany drop off site this time – Pip is doing a half marathon that morning so please give her a massive high five when you see her!)

Our next baking round is due in June but we weren’t able to get flights until the beginning of July soooooo the next round will be on Sunday 6 July.   Any ideas for a theme? Flick me an email!

In the meantime, a wonderful way to get involved with the Hospice Appeal Month, why not use your fabulous baking skills and host your own Hospice Cuppa?!!

Invite friends and family around for a morning or afternoon tea to enjoy your home baking, have a catch up and have fun. In return, you ask them to make a donation to Hospice. It is a great excuse for a get together!   You can run your Hospice Cuppa whenever it suits you, it doesn’t have to be in May. When you register, your chosen Hospice will provide you with a starter pack to help you kick start your Cuppa.

Go to http://www.hospicecuppa.org.nz to register or for more information.

{ Maple Kumara Pie | baking = love }

Cannot believe it’s March already!  Which means the next Baking for Hospice Round is next weekend on Sunday 9 March.

Thank you for all the emails placing a vote.  The winning theme is….

AUTUMN! By a nose (8 votes).

So think of red and gold, warming spices, autumnal fruits.  You could go with the American Fall flavours of pumpkin and sweet potato or stick to good old Kiwi Autumn fruits with Apples, feijoas, kiwifruit, pears, tamarillos. YUM!

St Paddy’s came a close second with 6 votes so feel free to through in some Irish baking if that takes your fancy.

And of course you don’t have to bake to theme at all – any and all baking is much appreciated!

Merci beaucoup, thank you so much for all the lovely baking on Sunday!

We had the most delicious looking creations: cookies and friands and even some home-made croissants! Can’t wait to share the photos with you in the Wrap Up post,  so watch this space!

Also wanted to give an update on how Hospice Cuppa is doing.  I got a lovely email from the wonderful Carol at North Shore Hospice that I want to share with you all!:

While the Hospice Cuppa campaign won’t wind up for another couple of months (we already know of two cuppas that are happening in August), I felt it was prudent that I make contact now to once again thank you and all the Baking for Hospice team for the amazing support we have received this year for the Hospice Cuppa.  We honestly couldn’t have done it without you all.

I am going to meet with the other Hospices on 1st July to collate all our figures and talk about what we can add for next year.  But in the meantime, I thought I would give you an update on how we at Hospice North Shore have been doing:

 To date we have received 67 Host registrations, which is about the same as last , although would you believe we are still receiving 1 or 2 registrations each week?

 We are delighted that to date we have raised over $9,000, which is just fantastic!  People have come back absolutely gushing about the fun they had with their Hospice Cuppa, with many saying it was a great excuse to catch up with friends and family that they hadn’t seen for a while.  A number of people held theirs at their workplace and had a fabulous time getting their workmates involved in the baking, etc and then getting together for a social event with their colleagues.  There have also been so great fundraisers going on within the Hospice Cuppas – many ran raffles, a Host at Auckland University had one of her colleagues offer to do staff’s nails for a donation to Hospice at her workplace event, and a couple of Cuppas fined guests for each question they got wrong on the Hospice Quiz.  It is heart warming to know that so much fun is being had in the name of raising funds for Hospice North Shore

 Not surprisingly, I have received a lot of positive comments about the recipes cards and on-line recipes – they have been baked all over the city and devoured!  I hate to think how many calories have been consumed in the name of Hospice over the last couple of months!  Maybe we should do a deal with Weight Watchers in the coming months……..

We still have around 20 Hospice Cuppas to be held, so we are quietly confident that we will exceed last year’s total of $14,000 – but I don’t want to tempt fate just yet – so keep your fingers crossed

I am really, really happy with how the campaign has gone and has been received by our community – I am loving hearing all the stories.  If you haven’t already, do check out our facebook page to see some great photos from the Hospice Cuppas

 I am also really grateful for the amazing support we received from Baking for Hospice – it really has made the world of difference

Please do pass on our sincere thanks to your bakers and I promise that I will let you know our final results, but it won’t be for a few months yet

Woohoo that’s a whooping $9000 and counting! Outstanding result!  So a massive massive thank you to everyone who generously baked and helped out at the launch, for all those who have hosted Hospice Cuppas and for everyone spreading the word!

Went to a lovely funeral today and am reminded of how important the Hospice is and what a truly amazing thing it is that they do. Thanks so much for all your support everyone! What an amazing cause to be giving to in the most delicious way!

{Christmas baking from Round 19}

{Christmas baking from Round 19}

Hello bakers!

The countdown to Christmas has begun!  Which means our last round of the year is also coming up! Round 25 A Summertime Christmas will be on Sunday 16 December.

The Hospices have kindly requested Summertime themed baking in particular slices (e.g. ginger crunch, chocolate caramel slice etc), biscuits (especially shortbread), and loaves (like fruit loaf, ginger, banana etc).  And any savoury baking is always very well received too!  But if you are feeling festive, a Christmas treat would be lovely too!

Hello bakers!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who baked for Round 21 and to the amazing people who were able to drop off baking and help out at the Hospice Cuppa Launch last week!

It looked like a glamourous event with loads of yummy baking and celebrities walking round!  Very gutted I couldn’t be down there for it but thank you sooo much to Jo, Owen and all the ladies and gentlemen who helped out on the day (and earlier that week) in my stead.
