Hello bakers,
I am so so excited to announce that Baking for Hospice is now also providing baking for the Totara Hospice South Auckland!!
Totara Hospice South Auckland provides support for community in the South Auckland area. This covers from Mangere, Panama Rd (Mt Wellington) to Bucklands Beach in the north to Karaka, Drury, Ararimu and across to Matingarahi in the south. They offer a comprehensive hospice/palliative care service which is free to all patients and their caregivers, thanks to the generosity of the people in the community who make donations and bequests to help meet costs
My very good friend Pavanie’s father had stayed at the South Auckland Hospice in his final days. Pav has been helping me out with Baking for Hospice from the very first baking round and now she is going to help expand our baking run to include the South Auckland Hospice!
“Like Nessie, I have had first hand experience of the wonderful service of the Hospice. So when Nessie started Baking for Hospice I was so thrilled to be able to give something back. I am so excited that Baking for Hospice is expanding and that we are now going to be baking for South Auckland Hospice.
South Auckland Hospice is a very special place for my family. My dad spent some of his final days at the South Auckland Hospice after being diagonosed with primary lung and secondary brain cancer in 2003. As a family we are so thankful for the way my dad and our family was looked after by the Hospice. I was so amazed by the kindness and patience of the wonderful people that cared for dad at South Auckland Hospice. The Hospice gave my mum who was the main caregiver for dad the much needed rest. Being able to give something back to South Auckland Hospice in our own way means so much to me. The South Auckland Hospice is very grateful for our offer and excited to have us on board!”
Pav is an amazing person with the biggest heart and I am so stoked and grateful for her help! I have dreamed of expanding our wee baking group to other hospices for yonks and it is unbelievably exciting that it is finally happening! I really couldn’t do it without the hard work of Pav so THANK YOU Pav, you are awesome!
So how it will work is that we simply have a brand new drop off point, in Pakuranga, and all baking that goes to the Pakuranga drop off point will be taken to the South Auckland Hospice. The regular drop off points will remain the same and baking at those ones will go to the North Shore Hospice as always.
I’ll send out an email with the details of the drop off sites but the timetable for Round 19: the Christmas Round on Sunday 18 December is:
St Johns (North Shore Hospice) 9:00am-10:00am
Epsom (North Shore Hospice) 9:30am – 10:30am
Pakuranga (Totara Hospice South Auckland) 10:00-12:30pm
Torbay/Albany (North Shore Hospice) 10:30am – 11:30am
Castor Bay (North Shore Hospice) 11:00am – 12noon
Glenfield (North Shore Hospice) 11:30am – 12:30pm
North Shore Hospice 1:00pm-1:15pm*
(* if you are thinking of dropping off at the Hospice please do give me a text on the day to let me know. If you drop off at the Hospice before the day, be sure to flick me an email with what you dropped off so I can include you in the wrap up!)
As always please flick me a quick email to let me know if you are baking and:
1) What drop off site you will be using; and
2) What you think you might be baking.
Cannot wait to see your Christmassy treats!
Nessie 🙂
