A father is someone that
holds your hand at the fair
makes sure you do what your mother says
holds back your hair when you are sick
brushes that hair when it is tangled because mother is too busy
lets you eat ice cream for breakfast
but only when mother is away
he walks you down the aisle
and tells you everythings gonna be ok
Massive thank you to everyone who baked for Round 12 our All About Dads Round!
We had a huge haul this round with loads of beautiful, creative and touching fathers themed baking.
As with our Mothers themed round, there were so many great stories about dads that went with the baking.
Shortbread seems to be a firm favourite with dads: Pavanie made heart-shaped shortbread because for her “Dad = love”. Kate M made her dad’s favourite cookie: traditional shortbread; and I made Matcha Green Tea Shortbread as a modern twist on shortbread which was also my dad’s all time favourite cookie and Black Forest Rocky Road coz black forest gateau was Dad’s favourite cake.
Gwendoline made some spectacular marble cupcakes as a tribute to her dad whose favourite flavours are vanilla and chocolate. She had a beautiful message about her dad:
My polynesian designs represent my father’s birthplace which is Samoa and the sunflower is Dad’s favourite flower because it reminds him of our spirituality. The way the sunflower always faces the sun is the way we should always look to God in everything we do. My father is 87 years old and we are so privileged to still have him with us. Along with my mother, he taught my brothers and I to have good morals and values, be close to family and to be true to oneself. They taught us never to take anything for granted, to appreciate life, to work hard and to always give praise to God above. Our home was always full of life thanks to both my parents and still is today. Dad has a real passion for gardening and for some reason still has hope in that I will soon start my own vegie patch…I wouldn’t hold your breath Dad. Best to leave the gardening to you….hahaha! Thank you for being the best father ever! I love you Dad.
The very diplomatic, Harlyna made Anzac Biscuits as she is from NZ and her husband is from Australia and she wanted to recognise both Dads from different sides of the Tasman. Jacqui made Citrus, Apricot and Coconut slice coz her dad loves anything with coconut in it.
Jenny H made Russian Fudge in memory of her dad’s sweet tooth: it was one of the few things he would make himself but with very mixed results!
Vicki made peanut brownies which are her dad’s all time favourite and the “Tool” caramel cupcakes by the clever ladies at Delish Cupcakes really need no introduction! So cute!
Rebekah’s dad is a rhubarb fan so she made rhubarb and pear crumble slice and Marion went with good old chocolate cake which is a definite favourite with blokes.
Anna made Sticky Date Cake as her dad’s favourite pudding is sticky date pudding:
Dad ranks restaurants on the quality (or absence of) their Sticky Date Pudding!
If I’ve missed off your story about your dad or if you want to share some happy memories about your father, please leave a comment…would be lovely to hear from you 🙂
A massive merci beaucoup to Diana, Jane & Mike, Dani, Philippa and Kathryn once again for letting us use their homes to drop off our baking and a special thanks to Diana (who some will have met at the Epsom site) for donating the cake boxes! You guys are awesome!
Thanks to all those who contacted me to let me know if you needed to drop off baking outside the time brackets on the drop off timetable. Totally understand if you need to drop off your baking earlier, just let me know by email (if you know in advance), or give me a text on the day and I can check with our wonderful drop off site ladies to see if they are home or arrange an alternative with you 🙂
A warm haere mai to Susan, Greer, Rebecca, Deborrah, Lesley, Jacqui, Yvonne, Gwendoline, Mel, Vicki and Jenny who have just joined our mailing list – it’s really wonderful to have you on board!
Our next round, Round 13 is Sunday 12 December for our annual Christmas Round. So dust off those santa shaped cookie cutters and get your fruit cakes doused…I know, can you believe it’s almost that time of the year again?
Take care all!
