God could not be everywhere, so he created Mothers
This round goes out to all the mothers out there, Happy Belated Mother’s Day!
Our hospice bakers paid baking tributes to their mums this round by baking mum themed cakes and cookies. There some really cool little stories that went with the baking…
Catherine made coconut ice cupcakes:
“Mum and I used to love making coconut ice together when I was little, and I used to experiment with different food colorings.”
Judy’s mother used to always make ginger crunch and my mum’s favourite dessert was cheesecake (she used to have a slice with lunch almost everyday!) so I made zebra cheesecake.
Jan made Queen cakes, a recipe from her mother’s form 1 cookbook and Wendy was going to make a Ginger Parkin from a recipe her Mum made but made a beautiful looking banana chocolate cake instead.
Jo made raspberry chocolate cakes which was one of the first recipes she learnt to bake from her mother when she was only 8 years old.
Jenny’s mother, who had stayed at the North Shore Hospice in 1996, used to make Flapjacks for Jenny when Jenny was a little girl. Jenny also made some Cheese Busters which her mother loved to eat.
Thank you all for your beautiful baking and for sharing your stories of your mums. Would love to hear about any happy memories of baking you have with your mothers, so please do leave comments 🙂
A massive thank you, once again to your drop off site ladies: Jane, Mike and Diana, Philippa, Danielle, Kathryn and Colleen.
And a big kia ora to Emma, Holly, Katrina, Petra, Catherine, Wendy, Alison M, Tom, Marika and Jan. Great to have you on the team!
Next round is going to be on Sunday 15 August. Any suggestions for a theme? Please leave a comment or flick me an email if you have any ideas!
